For the past few years I have seen my local community embrace the concepts of ”paint and sip” and growing trend of workshops in clay, print, whittling, knitting and the list goes on. The paradigm shift of more than a single maker in their studio to an evolution of shared creative space that can be anywhere with inspired people who come together for perhaps a dissimilar purpose; to escape, to connect, to discover?, it is in that difference that shines the light on craft being an avenue for creating community
Since my friend started hosting “bring a craft” night some 3 years ago it has seen the brining together of women from different circles, friends of friends and then friends of friends of friends, new employees at work and neighbours from the same street or from different towns. With inspired occasions like Easter, Christmas in July and a random Sunday in August it becomes an enjoyable occasion to unwind, connect and disconnect all at the same time.
•This is the rise of the non maker makers, the new makers, the experimenters and the ones who just want to connect. This is a new concept of the maker “out” of her studio
